The HistoryBeginning in 1923, the Junior Chamber of Commerce launched the first nationally endorsed program, "Get Out The Vote", designed to encourage citizens to participate in their government. Americans are given the freedom of choice- to choose which candidate to elect, or whether to vote at all. An alarming number of citizens are choosing the second option, leaving only a handful of people to decide the future of our country’s leadership and direction. For over 80 years, the Jaycees have used Get Out the Vote to not only register voters, but also to educate those voters, and motivate them to the polls on election day. The Jaycees campaigned to ensure statehood for both Alaska and Hawaii in 1959. In 1962, the Jaycees spearheaded the campaign for the adoption of the Uniform Vehicle Code. In Jacksonville , the Jaycees once blockaded the old Fuller Warren bridge, when it was the only means to cross the St. John’s river, only allowing vehicles to pass when the occupants registered to vote. The Jaycees are the only young professionals group with the history and alumni network to propel Jaycees into positions at every level of American politics. Bill Clinton and Gerald Ford were both active Jaycees. Nearly every Mayor of Jacksonville has been involved with the Jacksonville Jaycees. Former members of our Chapter currently hold positions in our State and US Legislation. Even today, Jaycee Chapters across our great nation are running projects to motivate their communities to take an active role in not only the Presidential elections in November, but also all the local and state level issues. Your vote counts, but only if its cast. ResourcesTHE AMENDMENTS (EACH NEED 60% VOTE TO PASS) Click here for a listing of all of the amendments. Click here for a document explaining the Amendments.
